The project’s main objective is to improve the quality and relevance of professional training in agriculture and forestry faculties in Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria through an active exchange of best practices within a network of African and European universities. The partner institutions will collaborate to enhance the quality of professional training in agriculture and forestry faculties, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for the challenges of the new labour market. The project will also strengthen university management capacities in partner universities.
In order to understand and meet expectations from the agriculture and forestry sector, AFOLM partners will closely collaborate to create more opportunities for African universities to effectively engage the stakeholders particularly the industry. Through a series of workshops, meetings and stakeholder consultations, Working Groups in each country will review the current curricula and examine areas to innovatively incorporate inputs from the industry and relevant stakeholders.
AFOLM will also seek to improve teaching skills and to enhance university management of resources through capacity building workshops designed by EU and African partners. The design of such workshops will take into account the capacity and needs of African partner universities. Trained personnel can then disseminate skills to their colleagues to ensure that the specific skills are passed on.
Through close collaboration in AFOLM, a natural partnership evolves, leading to potential for network researching and mobility programs between Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria. Working Groups will also look into the opportunities that increase staff-student mobility can bring to the universities and faculties.
